Education Minister Shafqat Mehmood shared important details about the single national curriculum a few days ago, stating that it will improve educational standards for Pakistanis across the country irrespective of their socio-economic class.
The federal minister for education and professional training, Shafqat Mahmood has highlighted the importance of a single national curriculum. He shared the important details regarding it as it will improve the educational standards across the country. Earlier it had been announced that from the academic year 2021 the unified curriculum will be implemented in the public and private schools as well as seminaries to offer equal learning opportunities to all the students. It has been stated that better educational facilities are provided to elite class students as compared to the students of public schools and madrassas.
This is only the thinking of a particular class here,” he said. “So, the standards [education in Pakistan] will rise,” added the minister. When prodded to explain how education standards courtesy the new syllabus will improve, Shafqat said that teachers’ training will improve and distance learning will be improved. “The kids studying in madrassahs and those studying in elite schools will have the same educational standards,” he said. “And those standards will be higher, not lower.”
Earlier, Mehmood had said that the single national curriculum will be implemented across the country from August 2021.
The Importance Of Single National Curriculum
Through the single national curriculum, equality in education will be provided to eliminate individualism. The Shafqat Mahmood has said the SNC has been prepared by keeping in mind the modern standards of education so that the students can compete at the international level. He further added that there is a certain class in the country that is aware of the Cambridge and oxford standards but after the introduction of the unified curriculum everyone can avail of the best opportunities. Moreover, the teachers will be trained to promote distance learning and the students studying in all the educational institutes will have higher standards of learning.
New Academic Year
Generally, the academic year starts in March after the conduction of the annual exams of matric and intermediate. But this year the education minister has said that the new academic year will start in August. According to the directive issued by the government, the annual exams of SSC and HSSC will be held in May and June. Due to the examination dates and the prolonged school closures of the school, colleges, and universities in the academic year 2020 the schedule of the academic year 2021 got disturbed. After the implementation of the single national curriculum in the schools, it will be introduced in the colleges from the academic year 2023.
The education ministry had said that under the directives of Federal the Minister for Education and Professional Training Shafqat Mehmood, the new year “would start now in August 2021 due to extension in examination dates to be held in May/June and also prolonged school closures in the academic year of 2020”.
